STEPHEN VENERIS

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL | HEAD OF THE YEAR 7-9 CAMPUS

Thank you to all our students and families for what has been a very successful term one for 2024. Our students have certainly embraced the full flourishing life of Padua College. Indeed, in John’s Gospel Jesus directs us to live our lives in this way, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10: 10.

Reminders

Could I please ask parents to access Main Reception (Not Coolock Reception) should you require a face to face meeting with Year 7-9 Campus Staff member, obviously due to Child Safe requirements we must have parents signing in via appropriate channels. Thank you for your support in this space.

Winter Uniform is required for all students from 1 May, please ensure uniform as per College Student Organiser is in place for the changeover date.

ANZAC Day

This year Anzac Day falls in the second week of term two. Please be aware we will have Senior Campus student leaders assisting with the laying of the wreath and other duties. I invite all students on the Mornington Junior Campus to represent the College by marching under our Padua College banner to commemorate this significant day on our National calendar. Please keep an eye out for more information early next term.

Year 7 Camp

Our Year 7 students have now all returned from camp at Ferngully Lodge in Healesville and have had a great opportunity to be with the other student members in their House as well as get to know their House Co-ordinator and a number of other staff.

Students were able to participate in a zip line, Leap of Faith, Survivor, Trivia Night, House Liturgy and other fun activities.

Sincere thanks to all staff who gave up time away from their own families as well as commendation to our Year 9 Leaders who ran a number of activities.

Particular thanks to Ms Rebecca Haas and Mrs Jodie Williams, Assistant Heads of Campus – Student Wellbeing and Growth, along with each of the Year 7-9 House Co-ordinator Team, Mr Sean Egan, Mrs Kate de Lacy, Mrs Josie Luppino, Mr Josh Probyn-Smith, Ms Anne Marie Furness, Mr Matthew Price, Mrs Steph Murphy and Mrs Kelscha Hutchison who each led their respective camp Groups. All reports indicate that the camps were an opportunity for growth and a step along the road that we each must take as we move into and through the teenage years.

Please enjoy some photos below.

Wishing you continued blessings,

Stephen Veneris
Deputy Principal
Head of 7-9 Campus, Mornington

Padua's Got Talent

On Tuesday 19 March our senior students hosted the ‘Padua’s got talent’ competition in the St Clare Performing Arts Centre, and the consensus was: Padua has plenty of talent!

Organised from ongoing work with the school leadership council led by Ms Hyland, Ms Modd and Mr Janes, we organised the lunchtime activity with the promise of canteen gift vouchers and a way to have a bit of fun!

From an intense drum solo, to Lenny and Eva Radiohead-esque rendition of Subterranean Homesick Alien, a fantasy performance with wizards, a class of vocal group students and an original song performed from Sophie and Bonita - there was talent across the board!

A crowd favourite was the incredible Issy Perondi’s (Year 7) cover of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep’, that blew everyone away and left jaws dropped! Issy absolutely blew us away… when she said she ‘liked Adele’ we didn’t realise we were about to hear her live! Congratulations Issy, and we are sure that you have some great years ahead in the music department!

Thank you to Ms Hyland and the whole music department for supporting us, including Charles Strawbridge for setting up microphones, drum kits and all the other magical stuff that happens in the performing arts centre.

Bernard House Leaders, Fin Fowler, Hannah Santoreneos & Jake Symes
