In February we congratulated Year 12 2019 student Matt McLean on being selected for the National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) Top Arts 2020 exhibition. As a component of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority Season of Excellence arts festival, the exhibition is also a significant event on the NGV calendar as it provides an insight into what captures the imagination and concerns of tomorrow’s artists. Matt’s artwork ‘Anamnesis’ tells a story of illness, family and emotions based upon his experience of his grandfather’s decline as a result of Alzheimer’s. Due to the NGV’s temporary closure until 30 June, patrons are invited to participate in a virtual tour of the Top Arts exhibition this year with access to artist interviews via the following link https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/virtual-tours/top-arts-2020/
Nearly 148,000 books have been delivered to 78 under-resourced schools and 25 kindergartens since 2012 and the Fiji Book Drive receive their strongest support from Catholic Schools. So they are asking if you have any books in good condition that you are willing to donate, ranging from Kindergarten books through to Harry Potter books (of interest to children aged 5-18). As we cannot collect the books at school, please drop off your donations at the reception of National Storage on 65 Yuilles Road, Mornington, in a box labelled ‘Fiji Book Drive’ before the end of term 2 (Friday 26 June). Thank you!

As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, Fit To Drive Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Association have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Arthurs Seat Challenge. This wonderful annual event is a 6.7km run/walk has been held since 2002 to promote the profile of the Fit to Drive program and to raise funds to enable the continuation of this invaluable program, which is currently provided to Padua College and other local schools free of charge.
While some restrictions may be lifted over the coming months, it is unknown if events such as the Challenge, which attracts around 2,000 participants, will be allowed to run this year. Consideration was given to holding a virtual event, but as all local schools are normally involved, it was decided not to proceed as it would place an unfair amount of additional pressure on our teachers, students, and parents in the current environment.
Planning for next year's event is now underway and it has been scheduled for Sunday 7 November 2021. Registrations for ASC 2021 will open in July 2021. The organisation continues to welcome donations via its website www.arthursseatchallenge.com.au, and the proceeds will contribute to the running of future Fit To Drive workshops when they recommence.
