Deputy Principal's Report

As we move through the term, I continue to be amazed at the resilience and positivity of all in our Padua community.

Our teachers continue to connect with our students via SIMON, Google Classroom and/or Google Meet, as well as a range of other platforms. As a Dad who is keeping an eye on my own daughters’ online learning, I do empathise with those who ask the valid question: Why not just use the one Remote Learning platform? However, I would ask that we persist, knowing that each subject is different and will benefit from varying delivery just as we do at school. Indeed, in our own work spaces we move between a number of different platform, apps, programs etc. So this is, in a very real way, excellent post school preparation and education for our students.

House Co-ordinators and homeroom teachers are continuing to support the students in their care, and we conducted our first Junior Campus Assembly last week. In our assembly, we invited students to participate in a photographic/video competition over the coming weeks. We asked them to upload photos, maximum of one entry per category, using the Google Form link below, the final date for entries is 14 May.

Categories:
1. Pets
2. Sporting Activity
3. Nature

Please upload your entries to: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc-wm0QJ477fRLBbNsxxIiJ2zsAeftKrlrG-ecF4ElF20AakA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Prizes at this stage are Canteen Vouchers for term three but depending on the level of interest, prizes might be increased.
I will include a few early entries I this Paduan newsletter to perhaps inspire the rest of us. Well done to Mia Davies, Chase Langford, Eleanor Rooke, and Zach de Blaquiere for some inspiring and heart-warming photos!

(Please note that these are not the winning photos. The judging panel has not yet convened but these are a few of the shots that caught my eye.)

Finally, keep trying your best at all you do. Try to keep in contact with your friends, be kind to your parents and your siblings, these times are tough for everyone. Be patient, one day this will be a memory.

Wishing you continued blessings,

Stephen Veneris

Hearts for Heroes

The community is finding thoughtful ways to thank and encourage people on the frontline, from letters of support for local hospitals to complimentary coffees, flowers and meals for healthcare workers and scientists. Mrs Devlin’s Year 7 Textiles students have started sewing fabric hearts for their heroes as a creative way of acknowledging and showing their appreciation.

Year 9 Insπred Maths

In Year 9 Insπred Maths, Ms Vinson’s students were set the task of making their own mandalas. Students got creative with their compasses and protractors to design beautifully symmetrical mandalas, which were then used as a mindfulness activity during this time of remote learning.

Cooking up a Storm

Mrs Sugameli’s Year 9 Food Technology students have been busy cooking up a storm at home. Well done to these Yer 9 students for demonstrating great remote learning and flexible production skills with fantastic results!

Year 7 Visual Art and Design

Year 7 Visual Art and Design students have been learning one point perspective drawing and developing their skills in rendering using a variety of media and techniques.

Jake Stewart has set himself up with a fantastic creative space at home and has effectively used his Copic markers to render colour and texture to emphasise the 3D qualities of cubes, surfaces and materials .

Pearl McLennan and Kaiden Higgens have used coloured pencils to render colour and texture and establish a light source.

Pearl has also completed a wonderful one point perspective drawing of a room using grey lead.

Well done Year 7s!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or “help” at school because of a disability. The NCCD helps governments plan for the needs of students with disability and schools are required to submit this annually.

For more information, please click on the link below to see the NCCD Information Sheet for Parents, Carers and Guardians.
