We have just returned from a very successful Year 7 camp at Ferngully Lodge in Healesville. The students participated in a large range of challenging physical tasks such as the giant swing, high ropes and a commando course. More laid back activities included a bush walk, swimming and indoor games.
Feedback from our Year 7 students included:
“I bonded with a lot of people I haven’t met before and made a heap of friends.”
“The food was too good and there was so much of it.”
“The camp dogs were cool!”
“I had to make sure I was on time for my activity and duty groups.”
“It was an opportunity to do things we don’t normally do.”
We also celebrated Ash Wednesday with a moving liturgy led by Mr O’Halloran and the Year 9 leaders.
The following evening Mr Baird led a toe-tapping bush dance which was followed by a student concert/talent quest which was won by our resident magician Thomas McInnes. On the final day, the students were lucky enough to visit the Healesville Sanctuary and interact with the wild life. Many thanks to the staff for giving up their time, the Year 9 leaders, and our therapy dog Luna the Labradoodle. A special thanks to Tess and Jason from Ferngully Lodge for providing us with beautiful food and a variety of well organised activities.
Mr Smith would like to thank the Hands on Learning students for their hard work and positive approach to the program. Stand by for further updates as Hands on Learning gathers momentum.
ACER Testing
Over the course of the week, Year 8 and 9 students have been completing the ACER Literacy and Numeracy tests. The data obtained from these tests provide valuable information for all staff on individual’s strengths and areas for growth.
The following articles from students are a snap shot of some of the activities that have occurred recently:
Year 7 Incursion from the Mornington Symphonic Winds Ensemble
“On Monday a band with students from Years 9-12 Mornington Padua came down to Rosebud and performed some pieces of Music with a variety of instruments that we can learn this year. It was a very entertaining session”

“We went to the Tootgarook wetlands and learnt about the animals that live there and other information about it. We also went to Chinaman’s creek and analysed some of the species in the water. In the afternoon we went to Hawkes farm and learnt all about the farming process. At the farm they spoke about everything they did and showed us around. We even got free corn. We also went to another farm and they were building a dam to store more water”.

We look forward to our upcoming Twilight Open evening on Wednesday 11 March.

Our Year 9 Catholic Action Program (CAP) class at Rosebud are collecting toiletries to be packaged and distributed in the local community via the St Vinnies soup kitchen. They are specifically looking for donations of the following items (the small versions from hotels or long haul flights): shower caps, shampoo, conditioners, body lotion, deodorant, soaps, sanitary items, toothpaste/toothbrushes and toiletry bags and pencil cases. These can be taken to the Rosebud front office and left in the labelled basket or given to homeroom teachers. Please send in items by Friday 13 of March. Thank you!
A clinometer is a tool that is used to measure the angle of elevation, or angle from the ground, in a right-angled triangle. You can use a clinometer to help you to measure the height of tall things that you couldn’t possibly reach the top of such as flag poles, trees and buildings. This week during their Maths classes, Year 9 students at Rosebud used a clinometer, tape measure and trigonometry ratio rules to calculate the heights of goal posts, tall trees and buildings.
