Deputy Principal's Report

Term one continues at pace on the Year 7-9 Mornington Campus. Monday 24 February saw our Mornington Junior Campus interhouse swimming carnival take place where our students represented their House groups admirably. We congratulate them all on their fantastic team spirit and singing! Well done to Sebastian House and Mr McKenzie on a great win (again) and well done to the following students who were awarded Swimmer of the Meet honours:
Jack Turner, Year 7 Mannix
Callum Rossetto, Year 7 Kolbe
Lily Snow, Year 7 Romero
Zeke Parks, Year 8 Frayne
Jade Landing, Year 8 Frayne
Ollie Pfister, Year 9 Frayne
Mackenzie Dornom, Year 9 Sebastian

Tuesday 25 February saw all students on the Mornington Junior Campus partake in the Shrove Tuesday tradition by sharing pancakes during our eXcel lesson. Historically the idea of Pancake Tuesday was to clear our pantries of butter and sugar so as be ready for the fasting of Lent. This year we spoke with the students about not only “giving something up” for Lent, but also using the symbolism of the pancakes to nourish and then energise our young people, to go out and do good works, in their homes, at school, in clubs they may belong and indeed the wider world. Sincere thanks to Mannix House Co-ordinator Mr Sosic for taking the lead and making all arrangements for a very successful and yummy morning.

Wednesday 26 February saw our junior students mark the beginning of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service. I would like to commend our Faith staff and student leaders who guided us through this significant day in the Church calendar as we prepare for Easter. Having been to many Ash Wednesday services across a number of catholic schools, I cannot remember seeing a more reverent and engaged group of young people. Well done to all involved, in particular Mr Harrison for his leadership and organisation of the Ash Wednesday liturgy.

By the time this issue of the Paduan is out, half of our Year 7 students will have returned from camp while the other half will be at Camp Howqua. I look forward to sharing stories of what I am sure will be a successful and fun time in the next edition.

Wishing you continued blessings,

Stephen Veneris
