Director of Campus Report

The weeks move on quickly and the Rosebud Campus students have already been involved in a range of activities. Our Year 7s were welcomed by their Rosebud peers and the College at the Opening Assembly last week. This was probably the first time that the Year 7 students were able to grasp the idea that they are part of a very large but very welcoming Padua community. Our Year 7 cohort looked magnificent in their new uniforms and were warmly welcomed by the older students as they paraded into the hall. Our College assembly also gave the students the opportunity to see the Academic High Achievers of 2019, and hear how the Dux of the school managed his time with study, social life and part-time work. It was a chance for our students to see what can be achieved when you raise your own expectations.

In preparation for the Opening Mass, our Year 7s have learnt the Padua song and some of the songs that will feature in this mass. They have sung with passion and their Padua song rendition has melted the hearts of many staff members. Our thanks to Mrs Jodie Williams who led the rehearsals.

Many students took on the challenge of competing in the campus swimming carnival at the Pines pool on Friday 14 February. Heats of freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and House relays were undertaken in perfect weather conditions, which also marked the beginning of the SIS swim team selection process. Many thanks to all those students who participated on the day, and a big thank you to our staff for setting up the venue, running the events and recording results. We beat the storms by a few minutes, so a great day was had by all. Congratulations to Anthony House who came away with the first major win for the year.

The weather was not as kind to us for the Aspire 9 launch on Wednesday 19 February. To avoid the morning showers, we gathered at the Rosebud Campus for our opening liturgy before travelling to different starting points for a walk to Seawinds national park. This is a great opportunity for our Year 9 students from all campuses to celebrate together and officially start their unique year at Padua, and they will continue to meet through different forums throughout the year.

Looking towards the busy weeks ahead, our students will soon be involved in Year 7 camp, Padua swim camp, sailing, lifesaving, triathlon and swimming training, and SIS sport. Please check CareMonkey regularly so nothing is missed in the business that is Padua.
