Welcome back to the start of a new school year and a new decade!
Melbourne weather was in fine form as we started back with Thursday and Friday being two very hot days. It was a great start to the year, firstly welcoming our new Year 7 students on Thursday, meeting our New Year 8 and 9 students, and then everyone together on Friday.
We also welcomed and introduced the following new staff members to our Tyabb Campus:
Nicole Crozier - Learning Enhancement Co-ordinator
Lee Collins - Learning Support Officer
Cassie McLean - Science
Jane Fletcher - Wellbeing
Danielle Tennick - Canteen
We welcomed back from parental leave, Chelsea Holmes and Bree Colcott.
Term 1 is always a very busy term with lots of new processes to learn and the challenges we all have adjusting to being new or returning to secondary school. Schools are not schools without students and, in line with our school values, we begin by welcoming and affirming all, and we look forward to inspiring the growth of each person.
As with all new and fresh starts, it is so important to build positive relationships. We look forward to sharing and building these relationships not only with our students but also with their families so that we can get the best out of each student’s God given talents. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any concerns.
Looking at the term calendar, it is shaping up to be a busy one. Tyabb school photos took place on 6 February and details about ordering photos follow below . Please make a note of the the Opening School Mass on Thursday 20 February and Year 7 camps, which take place 24-27 February.
We look forward to this year, the relationships we build, the experiences we share and the educational growth we witness.

Congratulations to Tyabb Campus Equestrian Team Co-ordinator, Gina Thompson in receiving recognition at the annual awards for VERA, for her considerable efforts in endurance events during 2019.
Gina and her team did exceptionally well, and the beautiful horse Islah (photographed) that she competed on all year received Top Distance Horse (2nd nationally) and Top Points Horse (4th nationally), 1st for 100% Completions nationally (most distance with no vet outs) and 1st for One Horse/One Rider (2nd nationally).
Gina was awarded 2nd for Distance Rider (4th nationally) and 2nd Points Rider (7th nationally).
In 2019 Gina rode over 1100km on Islah, including 3 x 160km rides and 120km for the final ride of the year, which she won. Gina is an inspiration to our Equestrian students and said, “I wish to thank all of you and the college for your ongoing support and well wishes for my involvement in this “crazy” but highly rewarding sport. It is my life blood.”
Annual school photos have been taken at all campuses this week.

When we gather for our whole College Opening Assembly next Tuesday 11 February, we will take the opportunity to have a school-wide appeal for the St Vinnies Bushfire Appeal. The assembly will include a liturgy focusing on the College Year of Light and how we can be a light to others, particularly in their darkest times. We ask that students bring a gold coin donation if they are able to do so.
We thank you for your support.

Padua has introduced a new rugby top for students to wear with their sports uniform. It is replacing the polar fleece, but is being phased in gradually so it’s not an immediate cost for parents.
Year 7s are to wear the rugby top and/or soft shell jacket over their PE polo top for sport. Students in all other year levels (8-12) can still wear the polar fleece with their sports uniform on the days they have PE, or the new rugby top if parents wish to purchase them.
The rugby tops are not to be worn as an alternative to the blazer.
The cost for the rugby top is $85.00 and they can be purchased through the Dobsons uniform shop at Padua’s Mornington Campus.
