Welcome to the final Rosebud Campus report for 2022. We certainly crammed a lot of school work, activities and celebrations into our final month.

PHILLIP HELISMA

CO-DIRECTOR OF ROSEBUD CAMPUS

RSL Remembrance Day Scholarship

Congratulations to Year 8 students Ava Levitt, Olivia Osorio, Jet Angus and Ruby Geurts, recipients of the 2022 RSL Ronald Bollard Remembrance Day Scholarship. These students were invited to attend the Rosebud RSL Remembrance Day Service on Friday 11 November, where they were able to lay a wreath on behalf of the College, after which they were presented with their scholarship in recognition of academic merit. We greatly appreciate the generosity of the Rosebud and Sorrento RSL and look forward to continuing our partnership.

Transition Program

On Friday 18 November all Year 9 students gathered at the Mornington Senior campus to begin their transition to Year 10. This day provided students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the rooms and facilities and meet their new House Coordinator and other students. The transition to the senior campus was also supported by jumpstart with the students commencing their Year 10 studies and meeting many of their new teachers.

The final activities of the Aspire 9 programme included swimming with the dolphins, bushwalks, tree surfing and a very enjoyable wrap up day at Gumbuya World. Thank you Year 9 students for all that you have given the Rosebud Campus. We wish all of you the best in your final years of secondary education.

The Year 7 & 8 students were also involved in the jumpstart programme that introduced them to their 2023 subjects. The students celebrated the end of the year by taking part in a diverse range of activities including tree planting, pizza making, theatre sports, Christmas crafts, sporting activities, knitting and chess.

Final Awards Assembly & Celebrations

Our final awards assembly recognised and acknowledged the many students who have worked to the best of their ability and excelled academically, in sport, the community and the visual and performing arts. It was wonderful to share this experience with so many family members and friends who gave up their time to attend the event. The awards assembly was followed a mass led by Father John McGinty. Our community greatly appreciated the chance to reflect on the year, join with each other in prayer and celebrate the Advent season.

Our final celebration involved a concert that showcased the talents of many of our students and an energy-packed trivia quiz led by Mr Calleja and Miss Glasby.

Farewells

I would like to thank all of the Rosebud Campus staff and students and parents for all of the work you have done to ensure the success of the 2022 school year.

All the best to the staff who are leaving Padua Rosebud Campus to work at our other campuses, to teach at other schools, travel or to spend more quality time with their families in retirement.

Mr Baird

I would finally like to acknowledge the Campus Co-director Mr Jim Baird for the great support, leadership and friendship he has provided the Rosebud Campus and myself over the past four years. Jim will be greatly missed but will be a great asset and provide wisdom, guidance and leadership through his new position as Deputy Principal at Catherine McAuley College in Bendigo.

Mr Baird is currently on Long Service Leave but managed to send through this following farewell message that was read to all students and staff in our final assembly.

Goodbye from Mr Baird

To all Padua Rosebud students. Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your educational life.

To our Year 9 students. Well done and congratulations on reaching the end of the first part of your Padua journey. It’s now time for you to move on. We have shared some interesting times with Covid and classes from home, Aspire 9 on again and off again and now you will pioneer a new timetable at the Senior Campus. For some of the Year 9s, the pathway will be different and I wish all of those students not going on with Padua all the best in your new pathways.

To our Year 7 and 8 students, I also wish you well as you continue at Rosebud Padua. Keep being you, and take nothing for granted. Learn from this year and look to improve on all you do next year. Remember a leader does not need to wear a badge. Lead by what you so say, how you act, and in what you achieve.

To all the staff at the Rosebud Campus I can not say thank you enough for the support, friendship, experiences, and joy that you have given me over the past four years. I have been truly blessed to be able to have had the opportunity to work with such wonderful people. Working for 14 years in one place (Padua college) is considered by some a long time but this time for me has been a time that I will never regret and will cherish always. Padua is a wonderful place to be.

Having said that it is now time for me, like the Year 9s to begin another exhibition. I will be the Deputy Principal of Catherine McAuley College Bendigo. I am looking forward to this challenge. I, like the Year 9 students, will need to find my way around a new school, meet new people, do things differently and I will not be in the comfortable confines of Rosebud Padua anymore, so we do this together.

To Mr Helisma, it has been an honour to work with you and I will miss your silly remarks at assemblies and your wonderful friendship.

So, to all I say farewell. I am sorry that I could not be with you on your final days, please have a safe and holy Christmas. Be smart, and play on.

Sincerely,
Mr Baird

From all at Padua Rosebud, we wish you a Holy Christmas and a great holiday.

See you next year!

God Bless,
Mr Helisma
