These sports awards are presented to Year 11 and 12 students in recognition of continual service to sport at Padua College. We acknowledge the Senior Sports Captains listed below for their services to sport at Padua College and congratulate these award recipients for their achievements in their respective fields.
Congratulations to Lachlan Caller (Year 12 MacKillop) and Alannah Deutsher (Year 12 Elizabeth) who were awarded trophies for the Padua College 2022 Sportspeople of the Year. These students have set a great example to the remainder of the school community by consistently displaying good sportsmanship, a willingness to get involved, leadership and a commitment to Padua sporting teams throughout their time at the College.
We congratulate Sophie Sutton, Year 12 Djeembana, on being named 2022 Sports Achiever of the Year. Sophie started cycling in 2013 and represented Padua College in both mountain biking (MTB) and road cycling for the Victorian Schools Cycling Championships as a Year 7 student in 2017 (winning the MTB series for the fifth consecutive year). That same year, Sophie began competing in track (velodrome) events followed by cyclo-cross in 2018. By 2019, she was awarded a medal in the National Cyclo-cross Championships. This year, Sophie was able to compete again where she was awarded two gold medals and a silver at the Oceania Cycling Championships. Sophie placed first with her Victorian teammates at the National Track Championships Team Pursuit race and was selected to proudly wear the Australian Jersey at the Oceania Track Championships (AUS v NZ) Team Pursuit race where the team placed first. We commend Sophie on her cycling accomplishments and for her participation in so many of the school-based sporting opportunities throughout her time at the College.
