VCE Exams

Our Units 3 & 4 VCE Music and VCE VET Music students recently completed their performance exams. Each student presented a 25-minute recital to an independent panel of VCAA assessors, who travelled to Padua to conduct the assessments.

These performances were supported by a remarkable group of student volunteers who formed the backing bands, demonstrating exceptional musicianship, maturity, and generosity of spirit. In total, more than 30 students were involved, with many assessed students also stepping up to assist their peers.

Results for these performance exams will be released alongside ATAR scores on 11 December. We wish every performer the very best of luck and congratulate them on their dedication and hard work.

Graduation Mass & Senior Assembly

On Monday 20 October, we farewelled our Year 12 students at the annual Graduation Mass and Senior Assembly, celebrating six years of commitment, creativity, and growth.

Music in the Spirit, led by Mrs Jodie Williams and Ms Sannia, provided the liturgical music for the occasion, including the much-loved Parody Song — a Padua tradition where a popular song is transformed into a humorous and heartfelt farewell. The entire gymnasium was delighted by Brian Robinson’s surprise performance of the worm on stage!

We also celebrated this year’s outstanding music award recipients:
• VCE Music Prize: Sam Boyden
• VCE VET Music Prize: Emily McGough
• Senior Musician of the Year: Sam Boyden – for his remarkable musicianship, leadership, generosity, and his perfect score of 50 in VCE VET Music (2024).
• Performing Arts Award: Liam McAloon, who impressed the audience with a dynamic rendition of “My Shot” from Hamilton.

Congratulations to all our graduating musicians for their achievements and lasting contributions to the Padua music community.

Spotlight on Excellence

Two of our talented students represented Padua at the OSIC Victorian Grand Final, having been selected from an extensive field of online auditions, 25-26 October.

Year 12 student, Harrison Worth (drums) and Yer 10 student Oscar Bonner (guitar) both performed brilliantly at the Australian College of the Arts. We are thrilled to announce that Harrison was awarded First Place and will now advance to the National Finals on 29 November 29 (tickets are available via the OSIC website).

Harrison also performed in five VCE and VET Music exams this term — memorising over three hours of repertoire! His commitment and work ethic are truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what his musical future holds.

Term 3 Performing Arts Showcases

The Mornington Campus Performing Arts Showcases held in Term 3 were a celebration of creativity, talent, and diversity in performance. The ensembles delivered an exciting array of pieces - from beloved movie soundtracks and dancefloor hits to vibrant Latin anthems and a powerhouse nine-minute tribute medley to Stevie Wonder. The evening took the audience on a musical journey through genres and generations: from the legendary Ozzy Osbourne to the epic sounds of The Lord of the Rings, The Beatles to Katy Perry, and a moving excerpt from the musical Come From Away - directed, choreographed, and performed by the Unit 2 Theatre Studies class. A standout moment was the all-saxophone arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody, which brought the house down, along with a young guitarist performing the signature Eddie Van Halen split leg jump! Hosted by our dedicated Performing Arts Captains, the night was not only a showcase of artistic excellence but also a heartfelt farewell for our Year 12 students performing together one last time. It was truly a night to remember.

A Note of Thanks

As we approach the end of the year and the festive season, we would like to thank all students, families, and staff for their ongoing support of our young musicians. Your encouragement and enthusiasm make all the difference.

Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and musical Christmas!
