SIS Athletics Div A Champions

Following a massive term of interhouse and intercampus comps, we finally reached the day Padua’s athletes had been waiting for... the 2022 SIS Athletics Div A Carnival.

Over 120 students gathered early on the morning of Tuesday 23 August for a massive day of competition at Melbourne Sports Centre’s Lakeside Stadium. Despite the sunshine, for which everyone was grateful, it wasn’t plain sailing. At one point, Padua was a whole point down to St Francis Xavier (SFX). Injuries wreaked havoc with the relay events but, thankfully, Padua has a large pool of willing and talented team players.

Students gave it their all, events were closely contested with Padua College winning the Intermediate Shield and SFX taking both the Junior and Senior Shield. Padua College won the Girls Aggregate and SFX won the Boys Aggregate. Points were tallied and we congratulate team Padua on their exciting win!

THIRD: 961pts John Paul College

SECOND: 1,119.5pts SFX College

FIRST: 1,175pts Padua College

Australian Cross Country Championships

On the weekend of 20-21 August, two of our very talented aerobics teams travelled to the Gold Coast to compete in the TFT National Aerobics Championships. After training all year, the Year 7 Mornington team, The Sea Swifts, rose to the occasion and reigned triumphant against the best teams in Australia. Amelie van Wijngaarden, Angilique Le Roux, Annabelle Menage, Annie Rogers, Cate Fahey, Emerson Mclvor, Laura Howard and Milla Cassidy showed exceptional strength, skill and resilience throughout the year and drew the attention of the judges with a very impressive score. Coaches, Mackenzie Dornom (Year 11) and Helena Haase (Year 12) could not be prouder!

Congratulations also to the Tyabb team (coached by Mrs Bailey) who fought hard in a very tough category to receive 11th place in Australia. Their hard work and determination throughout the year was exemplary!

Herald Sun Shield Div 2 Champions

After being crowned SIS Champions, our senior boys football team qualified for the Division 2 Herald Sun Shield semi-final, which they played on Thursday 11 August against a combined team representing Christian Schools Events Network (CSEN) at Highgate Reserve in Craigieburn. The boys got off to a great start with nine goals to zero in the opening quarter and continued to secure a 20.10 (130) to 5.4 (34) victory.

According to Coaches Stone and Banks, our young men were nothing short of outstanding in their performance and the way they played the game. They went on to beat MacKillop College Werribee 12.9 81 to 5.3 33 on Wednesday 17 August. Congratulations to Fletcher Bayne, who was named best-on-ground, and to Josh Smith and Jake Mones who were also commended on outstanding play.
