Dear Parents and Guardians,

Lunny Tina v2 2024

Tina Lunny

As we begin Term Three, it is with great pride that we reflect on the many achievements and celebrations that continue to shape life at Padua College. We ended last term with our final awards assembly, where we celebrated students for their academic achievements, dedication to extracurricular pursuits, and contributions to our vibrant college community. It was a wonderful moment to pause and recognise the effort, perseverance, and growth shown by so many of our young people. We also gratefully acknowledged the generous contributions to our term 2 coat drive and food line appeal, both of which speak to our shared commitment to social justice and making a positive impact in the lives of others.

The start of Term Three has continued with the same sense of energy and purpose. House spirit was on full display at our recent House Athletics Carnival, where students braved the wintry weather to compete with enthusiasm and pride. Congratulations to Doyle House for taking out the win this year! The day was a strong reminder of the camaraderie and connection that underpin all we do—and the willingness of our students to give their best.

Another highlight this term has been the launch of performances for our College production of Guys and Dolls. After months of dedicated rehearsals, the curtain has finally lifted, revealing an incredibly talented cast and crew whose commitment and passion are evident in every scene. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the staff, students, and parents who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring this production to life. It is a true testament to what can be achieved when creativity, teamwork, and perseverance come together.

I also wish to acknowledge the value of our progress reporting interviews, which are an essential opportunity for strengthening partnerships between families and the school. These conversations are central to our shared goal: supporting each student to achieve their personal best. When home and schoolwork in collaboration, we are able to guide our young people towards continued growth, clarity in their learning, and meaningful outcomes. The second day/evening of interviews will take place on 20 August, and I encourage any parents that missed out on appointments on 4 August, to register.

A timely reminder too of the importance of consistent student attendance, which plays a key role in both academic progress and connectedness to the school community. While we understand that illness and unavoidable absences will occur—and encourage students to stay home when unwell—learning can still continue via Google Classrooms, where teachers post tasks and resources. Staying up to date while away not only helps maintain learning momentum but also reduces the pressure of catching up once back at school. I thank you for your ongoing support in helping our young people continue to "Vow to do good today but better tomorrow."

As a final note, our campus community extends a big congratulations to both Ava Rogers and Sierra Fisher for their remarkable accomplishments in their respective sports, as shared below. We love to celebrate student success, so please continue to share achievements with us…

AIS Swim Camp

I was given the opportunity to represent Metro East and Victoria at the ACT winter championships, 24 - 27 July. We had a very strong team of 20 talented swimmers who were picked from a qualifying competition a couple of months prior. We stayed at the AIS and completed multiple team building activities, training sessions and tours to make use of the facilities given. When it came to racing, it was a tough weekend filled with race upon race but I came home with multiple personal bests, a silver medal in the 100 meter backstroke and was named best female swimmer of the meet. I am so extremely grateful to have had this opportunity and very proud of those who made up the team.

National Skate Championships

At the beginning of July, I was selected to represent Victoria at the 2025 Australian National Skate Championships that was held in Victoria. I am currently competing in the international grade Cadet Ladies Solo Dance against seven other competitors. This was my third national competition and my entry ticket into the World Skate Oceania’s and Pan Pacific Cup. To enter this competition, you had to make the top 5 of the category. After performing 2 strong skating programs with a personal best of 68.80, I came home with a bronze medal and a pathway to my second time competing at Oceania's.

Debating

Four enthusiastic Tyabb debating teams traveled to the Mornington Campus for the annual SIS championship. They debated firework bans and salary transparency, then tackled secret topics with one hour of preparation and no online help! All teams showcased superb teamwork and learning, and even had a few wins and best speakers!
