MATTHEW WILLIAMS
VICE PRINCIPAL MISSION, IDENTITY, COMMUNITY
One of the positives of being the largest Catholic college in the Archdiocesan of Melbourne is that we have a strong network. When our community decides to roll up their sleeves - action gets done!
We have a long-standing partnership with our local St Vincent de Paul (SVDP) outlets and conferences supporting the most vulnerable on the Peninsula.
Did you know that after the Melbourne CBD, Mornington Peninsula has the largest homeless rate in Victoria?
Padua College is holding a trivia night at the Mornington campus on Friday 29 August to raise money to assist with the costs of SVDP home visits and crisis management.
The number of referrals and assistance given by all the SVDP conferences on the Mornington Peninsula have escalated to an all-time high. Last year over $750,000 was given in various ways to provide support for members of our community in need through the phenomenal work of SVDP.
How can you help?
Donate a prize or voucher towards our trivia night. These will be auctioned on the night.

Thank you to all in our community who donated to our appeal led by our Mission Captains – Charlee Dornom and Thomas McInnes. All donated goods have now been delivered to Vinnies outlets on the Peninsula, a much-needed support during these cooler months.

I first heard about forced marriage last year when an ACRATH (Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans) member spoke at a Mercy Education State Seeds of Justice Leadership Camp which I attended as a member of the Padua Social Justice Team.
I was saddened by the exploitation of children and to hear that this is happening right here in our own backyard. I was alarmed to find out how many people live in modern slavery, and wanted to draw attention to the issue while raising funds for ACRATH and the amazing work they do. To raise the funds I decided to run a half marathon at Run Melbourne. The comradery on the course was amazing and while it was a big challenge, I had a great time representing the college and ACRATH. Thanks to the Padua community, my family and friends, I raised $1000 (doubling my goal) which I donated to an incredible organisation. ACRATH provides one-on-one support to victim-survivors of human trafficking and their children through the Companionship Program. They advocate to MPs and other change makers to act and develop policies to eliminate slavery in Australia’s supply chains of goods and services. ACRATH also educates workers in the health, education, and community sectors to identify and support victims of modern slavery.
I was proud to have the support of Padua while raising awareness for such a worthy cause.
