Dear Parents and Guardians,

Lunny Tina v2 2024

Tina Lunny

Throughout term two, our college theme “Resolve to do good today but better tomorrow” has been a powerful reminder of the small, everyday choices we can make to grow. Earlier this term, our Tyabb students made a personal pledge—an individual commitment to doing just a little better than yesterday. These were in turn, displayed in our front foyer (an image of which is shown below). With Semester One student reports soon to be released, it’s a timely opportunity to reflect on how far each student has come. We encourage families to sit down together, celebrate successes, and use the feedback as a guide in setting fresh goals for the remainder of the year.

A special thank you to our Geoghegan Academic Leader, Ava Rogers, for gathering and organising many of the student reflections included in this edition of The Paduan—we hope you enjoy this snapshot of all the great things that continue to happen in our school community.

Guys & Dolls

The production cast and crew have been working very hard to put together the guys and dolls show. In case you don't know this show is set in the 1950s in New York it's about gamblers and the dolls also known as the women. In Week 5 we had 2 full day intensive rehearsals, and we even had a celebratory pizza night.

The guys and dolls tickets went on sale for the public last night you can access then tickets from the Padua website

Theatre Sports Workshop

On Friday the 6th of June, 4 of our Tyabb Padua students got on a bus with students from the other campuses. We drove to St Francis Xavier we did some up warm up activities then got split into Juniors and seniors and spent the day collaborating with other schools and learning new drama games to improve our skills.

Drama Club

Since the start of term two, drama club has been running every Tuesday, at lunch. During this time, we have been eagerly preparing for SIS theatre sports next Friday, doing fun theatre activities and practises. Drama club is about expressing yourself and getting together with people that you might not talk with every day. It’s about inspiring others to want to perform and showing that anyone can.

Just Dance Lunchtime Club

Every Wednesday lunch at Tyabb, we hold “Just Dance” club run generously by Ms Callum. Dancing is a fun and entertaining way for students to get exercise in. This then benefits the students’ overall wellbeing and focus in the classroom, while also helping to build new connects through music, laughs and fun. We hope to see you there!

Cross-Country Training Camp

Our keen runners got the opportunity to partake in the annual cross country camp. On the first day, we set off to the green hill trail. Once we got there, we warmed up and then we ran together, supporting each other and encouraging our fellow peers to achieve their best. The whole course was about 3.7km. The pretty track with a few roots was so gorgeous with amazing greenery and nature. After the course we all had lunch there outside and headed back to Tyabb.

On Thursday, we went off again to Sorrento back beach. When we got there, we did a warm up then we ran. The course was 5 Kilometres and on a really nice track. After a challenging run, we headed to Sorrento main street where all the students got lunch and had some time to walk around. After lunch we hopped back on the bus and went to the foreshore. We ran along the foreshore and that was about 3 kilometres. Once again, the run blew us away with the pretty views.

Overall, the whole experience was really fun and a great experience.

Tyabb Taster Day

On Wednesday 11 June, Year 4 students from St Joseph’s, St Mary’s and St Brendan’s primary schools came to Padua. The day consisted of four activities P.E., Food Tech, Science and History. In P.E. they participated in running activities. In Food Tech we made funny face cookies. In Science we did the elephant toothpaste experiment, and they then created bracelets made with ultraviolet beads that changed colours in the sunlight. In History, the students learnt about the history of masks and why they were used before designing and making their own. They all left with a smile.

Sustainability House Challenge

During the past few weeks, Rosebud Houses have been competing with each other over who can bring in the most recyclable cans and bottles. The two old rivals, Cardijn and McCormack were neck and neck, but Cardijn took over the lead. Doyle came up in third and Geoghegan in fourth. The cans and bottles collected are going to be turned into fundraiser money for new sport equipment at our campus, all while stopping rubbish from going in our ecosystems.
