CAROLINE JEREMIAH
DEPUTY PRINCIPAL, MORNINGTON YEAR 10-12 CAMPUS
Our Year 10 & 11 students are currently undertaking end of Semester One exams. This exam period marks the end of Semester 1 for the whole College on Friday 20 June and all classes moving to Semester Two on Monday 23 June for the last two weeks of Term Two.
Earlier this week on Tuesday 17 June, all Year 12 VCE, Year 12 VCE VM and Year 11 students undertaking a Unit 3/4 subject (VCE or scored VET), sat the GAT. The GAT is an exam that assesses a student's general knowledge and skills in literacy and numeracy and helps ensure the quality of VCE assessments and demonstrates students' ability to meet the expected literacy and numeracy standards at a senior secondary level. With approximately 500 students undertaking this test, I thank Vice Principal – Learning & Teaching, Angie Ranson, along with Year 10 – 12 Learning & Pedagogy Leaders, Ciara Roberts and Jodie Connell, for leading the process involved.
Every year, Padua College provides students and parents with the opportunity to speak to representatives from Universities, TAFE Colleges, Private Colleges and Gap Year Programs, and employment organisations offering apprenticeship and traineeship options. The annual Education, Careers and Training (ECAT) Expo will be held on Wednesday 2 July this year at the Mornington Campus Library.
The College Subject Information Evening is held concurrently to allow families with students in Years 9-12 to explore and discuss subject offerings and pathways in senior school with teachers and Heads of Learning Areas. Please note that information sessions will be held in the Whyte Senior Learning Centre lecture theatre at the following times on the evening:
Year 10 – 5:30pm – 5:45pm
Year 11 – 6:00pm – 6:15pm
Year 12 - 6:30pm – 6:45pm
We look forward to seeing you there.
Padua College Year 11 English students have been studying the iconic Australian film, The Castle, and last week welcomed actor Stephen Curry for a special talk. Stephen, who plays Dale Kerrigan, shared behind-the-scenes anecdotes of filming The Castle and his experience in the film industry. The students thoroughly enjoyed hearing his insights on key themes of the film in relation to their personal response essay about The Castle. A heartfelt thank you to Stephen for taking the time to visit Padua and share his experiences.
On Friday 27 June the Year 11 students will come together for their Year 11 Social. This year students have been encouraged to support our local Vinnie’s conferences by purchasing part of their outfit or their accessories from a Vinnie’s store, and then consider donating these items back after the event. This promises to be a wonderful celebration for our Year 11 students following their period of exams.
A reminder that all students must wear ties with shirts when wearing pants as part of the winter uniform. Only navy blue or cream scarves are permitted. Please ensure your child leaves home clean shaven and without nose rings, in keeping with College expectations. Official Padua tracksuit pants are the only pants permitted with the sports uniform.
Please review the CPC Calendar to ensure your child attends all compulsory CPC days. These sessions are essential for receiving important information in line with VCAA guidelines, and offer valuable opportunities to hear from guest speakers about post-school pathways. A reminder will be sent to students prior to these events.
