We trust that this edition of the Paduan finds you well and that you are looking forward to a well-deserved break. It has certainly been yet another busy term.

Farewell

Mr Danny Galvin

Mr Danny Galvin retired at the end of week eight of term two, after teaching at Padua for 23 years. We wish him all the very best in his well-deserved retirement.

“Mr Galvin was my first high school English teacher, and he encouraged me to read, make friends and play my violin. Mr Galvin always had time to talk after class and was always available to ask for English help”.

Shelby Legh

“I remember Mr Galvin as a teacher that motivated me to always go one step and beyond, who without fail had advice on making my English essay just that little bit better. No matter what, he had the best jokes to make a class laugh.”

Merlyn Jojy

Mrs Sheryl Paton

We also said farewell to Mrs Sheryl Paton who has made the difficult decision after being at the Rosebud Campus for 17 years to take on a position at Nazareth College.

Thank you

Miss Amy Cheers

Miss Amy Cheers will be taking on the role of Anthony House Co-ordinator starting term three. Her homeroom students have written the following message:

Miss Cheers….
Oh, we will miss you in Teresa House – we know you won't be far away, but not green anymore!!!!!!!!!!
Please stay close to us and always say hello!!
Your Teresa 4 family

Mrs Kylie Baker

We also thank Mrs Kylie Baker for all her tremendous work this semester as our Daily Organiser. Kylie is remaining at the Rosebud Campus in the front office and payroll.

Lunchtime Catch-up Classes

At Padua College we strive to ensure that all students have an opportunity to be their best selves and thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. We take great care to ensure that each learner can engage with a learning program that fosters a sense of academic accomplishment. It is important for students to understand that they are active participants in their own learning, whilst in the classroom and when working independently at home.

We are introducing Lunchtime Catch-up sessions across our Junior Campuses. This program will provide a supervised space for students who have not completed classwork tasks during the allocated class time, to complete outstanding work. Students who attend Catch-up classes, will be assigned by their subject teachers and you will receive a notification through PAM. These sessions will run for 30 minutes during the 50-minute lunchtime break.

Academic Enrichment Program

Next term we will be trialling an Academic Enrichment Program for Year 9 students at Rosebud. This will focus on extending students in the key areas of Mathematics, Humanities, Science, English and Religious Education. If you are interested in your child being involved, please contact Sonny Voss, Learning and Pedagogy Leader, svoss@padua.vic.edu.au

Respectful Relationship Team

Recently Respectful Relationship students met with Suzi Hyland and Simone Wright to discuss student audits around behaviour they notice around the College. Topics discussed included areas of concern and student behaviour towards teachers and their peers. The Respectful Relationships team will meet again early in term three to take part in some leadership training and tackle some of the concerns they have highlighted.

Year 7 eXcel day

On Wednesday 14 June, Year 7 students at Rosebud Campus took part in an eXcel day. One focus of the day was breaking down anxiety. Students watched a fantastic performance by Brainstorm Productions, listened to a talk that discussed being worried vs clinical anxiety, and they participated in a workshop that included activities that can be used to redirect 'big thoughts'. The activities included: Mandala drawing – much research has been done to demonstrate how drawing can calm the mind; making stress balls – focusing on tensing and relaxing muscles; creating positive affirmation cards; and some outdoor activities such as cornhole and mini golf to encourage safe, positive endorphins and fresh air. Students were able to vocalise ways in which they can de-catastrophise thoughts and take control of their thinking processes.

Forensic Science

We made fake skin in pairs which was basically playdough mixed with some coffee to give it a bit of colour and then we were given a fake blood mixture which was chocolate sauce and red food colouring. Lucia and I decided we wanted to do a big, bloody claw mark along my forearm, so we covered it in fake skin and made grooves for the cuts. We ended up having extra skin, so we added a few other little scratches on my hand. The fake skin looked very fake so we thought we would just cover it in blood to make it a bit more realistic, but we got a bit carried away and nearly my entire arm was red with fake dye. It did stain a little, but it was a great experience and something I would experiment with again.

    SIS Sport

Rosebud has been busy in term two competing in SIS with six teams heading out on a weekly basis with Junior and Intermediate teams. We had two Netball teams of Year 8 girls, Netball A team came home with two wins and the B team managed to secure one win. It was a great effort for all and fantastic to see the girls getting involved. Continuing with the Juniors we had a Boys Volleyball team who unfortunately didn’t manage a win yet showed great enthusiasm and spirit throughout the games. The Junior Boys Soccer were undefeated throughout the season displaying passion and skill.

    Intermediate Boys and Girls Football

The Year 9 Girls Football team started the term off strong with nearly a 100-point win against SFX with great leadership from Ruby Geurts. We then travelled to Mornington to verse the Year 10 team full of ex-Rosebud Campus students. With a surprise win against Mornington in a raining-sideways blizzard, the team was flying high leading into our four weeks off. Upon our return to the field, we lost a nail-biter to Tyabb Campus in a goal-for-goal shootout. One last game left this week to finish off the term with a strong performance against Balcombe. Well done to all 24 girls involved.

    Mr Daniel Kerwin

The Boy’s Football team have yet to drop a game, competing strongly against many teams who consist of Year 10s. With one game to go we are hoping the boys can come home undefeated for the season. It was fantastic to see the boys' dedication shine through doing something they love and representing the Rosebud Campus for Padua.

    Thank You

A huge thank you to all the coaches Sheryl Paton, Louise Paxino, Sian Pugh, Sean Chappell, Dan Kerwin, Brendan Smith and Jen de Longville who took time out of their busy schooling week to support the students. Congratulations to all students involved and well done on your efforts.

    School Production

As I head up to Mornington every Wednesday and Thursday, it is so much fun as I get to hang out with such talented people. To watch the production come together is incredible. The kids from Teresa Year 9, such as Phoebe Merrison and Gigi Hogan are working so hard to make this a fun and spectacular show.

We all really hope you enjoy the production.
