CO-DIRECTOR OF ROSEBUD CAMPUS
Students reflected on the values of sacrifice, compassion and love during the recent Easter and Anzac Day liturgies. These gatherings allowed our students to develop further empathy, gratitude and a deeper understanding of history and tradition. We thank Mrs Beattie and our Mission leaders in preparing and leading these liturgies.
We congratulate Miss Mahima Stephen who became engaged over the holidays.
We extend a warm welcome to Mr Luke Tyrell who has taken on the role of McAuley House Coordinator. Luke has been a long-standing staff member at the Tyabb Campus. We also welcome Mr James Croker who has commenced in the English and Humanities department.CongratulationsWe congratulate Miss Mahima Stephen who became engaged over the holidays.
At the end of last term, we farewelled Mrs Petrina Tyler who retired after 35 years working at the College. Mrs Tyler has been a much-loved member of the Rosebud community and a dedicated and passionate educator. We wish her well in this new chapter of retirement.
As we compose this newsletter, our Year 9 students are out on their first of the Aspire 9 Focus Weeks. We wish them well on their week of adventure and look forward to sharing their experiences in the next Paduan.
We are so incredibly proud of Sophie D’Alia and Izzy Thomson who over the recent Term One holidays made it to the Grand Final of the United Nations Public Speaking Competition. Both girls impressed the judges with their preparedness, content and delivery.
Sophie spoke on the topic of: “AI is going to change everything, but it’s going to be a partnership between humans and AI, not a competition,” while Izzy spoke on the topic of: “How can developed countries such as Australia support and aging population as the birth rate declines?”
Congratulations Sophie D’Alia and Izzy Thomson.
Tom McGough continues to utilise his God given talents coming home with two Australian Records in the 100m and 200m, and 5 PBs and 6 medals in the Athletics National championships held in Perth.
Well done to Maisie Brown, Sophie D’Alia, Siena De Fazio, Allegra Del Ben, Lachy Henke and Raphaela Lieberman for participating in the SIS Public Speaking Competition, which was held on Thursday 8 May at the Mornington Campus. The day consisted of multiple prepared and impromptu speeches being presented and appraised by external Judges. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, learnt a lot about public speaking and look forward to future opportunities.
On Wednesday 7 May, several of our students we were joined by their Mum’s, Grandma’s and other significant females to celebrate Mother’s/Special Person’s Day.
Thanks to Emma Pangrazio and Trish Strawbridge for organising the delicious spread of croissants, fresh fruit, pastries, juice and tea and coffee, to Brendan Smith and Kath Selek for supplying succulents. Di and Paul for their creativity in setting up the library space and the House Coordinators and other teachers who assisted on the morning.
The highlight of the morning was our guest speaker Dr Megan Rogers, a Padua parent, who shared some of her experiences of being an author and the importance of supporting others in need and the impact this can have on people’s lives. Megan’s generosity in giving her time and providing copies of her book “The Heart is a Star” is greatly appreciated. We look forward to hearing about Megan’s future endeavours.
On Thursday 1 May, I had the exciting opportunity to participate in a marketing video for Padua College. The experience involved me getting mic’d up and joining a group of eight camera crew, as we filmed various scenes around the campus, including the library, the wetlands and the bush area, all while painting the image of a day in the life of a student at Padua College. As overwhelming and intimidating as it was, I’m truly grateful for this opportunity. The camera crew was incredibly patient and supportive and it was fascinating to witness all the extensive behind the scenes efforts lead all the way up to one finished product. Thanks to all that helped and that featured on the day. I'm really proud to represent the school, and can’t wait to see the finished product.
Maisie Brown, Year 8
