JULIE CLOUGH
CAREERS LEADER
On Wednesday 2 April, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) visit our Senior Campus to provide students with insights into the diverse career opportunities within the ADF and to inspire them with stories of service and dedication.
Sessions included an engaging presentation on the various opportunities available without the ADF, pathways, jobs and employment opportunities.
The visit concluded with a networking session where students could speak one-on-one with ADF representatives to ask specific questions and received personalised guidance on how to pursue a career in the ADF.
This term on Wednesday June 4 periods 4 and 5 all Year 10 students will be undertaking the Morrisby Profile.
This is psychometric assessment that measures 5 career-related abilities to provide a complete profile.
Through timed aptitude assessments and multiple-choice questionnaires, a Profile is prepared, offering fascinating insight into a person’s inner strengths and abilities, preferences, motivations, and personality.
Career and further study suggestions are provided, drawing from a database of over 800 different careers and 400 study options.
The information students gain from completing their Morrisby Profile can then be used to help with pathway and subject selection moving into VCE.
VTAC acts as a central application point to make the process of getting into a course easier and more efficient for both students and tertiary institutions. VTAC manages applications and assessment for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) and scholarships programs offered by tertiary education providers. They offer admissions and selection services and platforms for tertiary education providers for non-year 12 applicants and postgraduate programs.
Course Search is VTAC's main resource for course research. You can search for courses by keywords such as course names, codes, qualifications, majors, institutions or campuses. You can also search or refine by institution, estimated ATAR, qualification level, study mode, area of interest, applicant type or application method.
When you go to Course Search, the first thing you'll see is a text box to search for keywords and a list of filter options. You can start a search by typing in a keyword or more than one search term, separated by a space—Course Search will look for all of them.
As well as searching for your keyword in the course title, qualification level and major studies (area of specialisation) fields, Course Search will search the fields for the name of the institution and campus. So, searching for “commerce Melbourne” will bring up results where the words “commerce” and “Melbourne” are found in these fields.
Students need to be looking at the prerequisites within the courses they are interested in and make a note of the subjects that are needed for courses leading into the upcoming subject selection process.
