DANIEL NISBET & TINA LUNNY

CO-DIRECTORS OF TYABB CAMPUS

That’s a wrap for another action-packed term one at the Tyabb Campus. The last few weeks have been quite eventful with plenty of opportunities to make use of the excellent weather.

Our Year 7 students took some brief time out from their classes to contribute to our ‘Alumni Garden,’ planting a small tree that will be a long lasting legacy of their time here at Tyabb.

Our Year 9s have launched into the Aspire 9 Program with enthusiasm and gusto, taking part in a walk up Arthurs Seat, first aid, swimming with the dolphins, and mock job interviews just to name a few. Thank you to the staff that volunteered to support these interviews and also to our local Rotary Club volunteers that kindly assisted in the experience.

Our Year 8 students had their eXcel day on Wednesday 28 February, engaging in sessions conducted by external providers such as:

Living Culture - where students where taught traditional bush tucker and medicine practices,

Blurred Minds - where students were informed of the dangers of substance use and strategies to protect themselves from harm.

A focus session - on personal sustainability run by Ms Hyland and the local Shire.

We had a fantastic day at the Tyabb swimming carnival. Our Sports Co-ordinator, Ms Love did a brilliant job organising the event and we were blessed with awesome weather. The carnival came at a great time for the students to take a break in their studies and all students got involved in creating the carnival atmosphere, dressing up, cheering and giving their all in the pool. Well done to the House Co-ordinators for the preparation work that went into the House chants and costumes. Please read Ruby Dean's report below.

We have also completed our NAPLAN for another year with our Year 7 and 9 students completing this assessment over three days. Well done to Mrs Kenyon for all her work facilitating this for another year.

Congratulations to our year 7 and 8 House and Sustainability leaders for 2024 who were presented with their badges at a recent assembly. From left to right: Amelia Lee, Luella De Vere, Ada Judd, Emily Huguenin, Lexi Hodge, Kendra Grant, Holly Modderkolk, Lily Miglioranza, Darcy Smith.

As we head towards Term 2, can we please give a reminder to all students and families to take the time over the Easter break to check their winter uniform so that they are ready to return looking their best after the holiday break.

From the both of us, can we wish all of our families in our Tyabb community the very best of wishes for the Easter break. We hope the break provides an opportunity for students to refresh the batteries and to return recharged for Term 2!

Happy Easter, From Ms Lunny and Mr Nisbet

Tyabb Swimming Carnival

On 8 of March, Tyabb Campus came together at Pines Pool to compete against each House for the 2024 swimming carnival. Everyone dressed up in their colours and weren’t afraid to go head to head with classmates, friends and fellow competitors. The people who didn't get in the water were on the sidelines cheering on their peers. Fortunately the weather was a sunny 28 degree day with not a cloud in the sky. The waterslide was a very popular activity where we got to cool down while waiting for our next race. In the end McCormack came in with the win with 559 points with Geoghegan coming in 2nd on 486 points. Third place went to Cardijn with 344 points followed by Doyle with 308. In the end everyone had a ball cheering on their teammates resulting in the teachers jumping in for a swim too.

Aspire 9 Launch

On Wednesday 7 February, the Year 9s went on their first Aspire9 excursion. We were heading up to Seawinds, Authurs Seat. The Tyabb students hiked along steep hills to get there, where we were greeted by Rosebud and Mornington students. Some teachers and House Leaders ran a liturgy, and then we all split into small groups based on Houses and did some 'Getting to Know You' activities. After that, we had a lunch break where many people socialised and made new friends. Then, there was a small assembly to discuss the day's events and say goodbye. Then, we all left one house at a time and returned to school.

It was a great experience and almost all of us, if not all of us, made some great new friends.
