Term One ended with a fantastic afternoon in which a Dreamtime Exhibition Match was held with Padua College and John Paul College coming together to celebrate Indigenous culture, community, and the power of sport.
From two great games to the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle James from the Bunurong Land Council, the event reflected the spirit of connection and learning, and we thank our FIRE Carrier students for their leadership and help in bringing this inaugural game to life. While our Senior Girls and Boys claimed the shields, the games were played in true community spirit and respect.
We would also like to acknowledge Holly Ryan (Class of 2022) who created the Indigenous guernsey for the Padua Team. Her design tells a story of place, connection, and the spirit of sport.
The blue wave patterns in the base layer represent water, reflecting Padua College’s connection to the sea and important waterways of Bunurong Country. The four meeting places through the centre of the design symbolise the coming together of both teams across the four quarters of the game, united in a shared purpose and respect for one another. The figures at the top and bottom represent the players. They are not separated by team colours, highlighting that the true spirit of the game lies in sportsmanship, connection, and respect beyond simply winning or losing.
