The Ethics Olympiad is a unique academic competition where Padua students engaged with real world ethical dilemmas through thoughtful, collaborative discussion.
Prior to the competition, students attended a training day focused on ethical theories and activities designed to challenge them. Students prepared for eight challenging cases covering topics including technology, justice, relationships, and contemporary social issues. Unlike traditional debating, the Olympiad encourages teams to work together to develop the most ethically justified response.
On the 11th of May, Millie S, Kaer P, Rosie M, Cooper Hand Diya N, supported by Logan S, proudly represented Padua College in the 2026 Ethics Olympiad competing against other schools in Victoria and Tasmania. Rather than debating for victory, teams work together to present the most ethically justified response to complex cases involving technology, justice, relationships, and contemporary social issues. The event develops critical thinking, respectful communication, and the ability to reason clearly under time pressure.
Padua’s participation highlights our commitment to forming students who think deeply, listen generously, and respond thoughtfully. Teams prepare by analysing case studies, exploring ethical frameworks, and practising constructive dialogue. On the day, students present their position, respond to another school’s critiques, and answer questions from expert judges.
The Olympiad strengthens skills essential for future study and leadership: ethical literacy, teamwork, and intellectual humility. It showcases Padua students in their element, exploring curiosity and ready to engage with the moral challenges of the modern world by applying ethical theories relevant to each case. The students had so much fun and ended up finishing 7th out of 29 teams on the day and were rewarded as the Most Improved team showing their enormous growth in such a short period of time.
