FIRE Carriers strive to make Padua a more diverse and inclusive place by incorporating aboriginal culture into our school and working hard towards reconciliation.
Q&A
with Millie & Jay, our 2026 FIRE Carriers Captains working to make Padua College a more inclusive and diverse environment.
There are no requirements to join FIRE Carriers, anyone can sign up and attend meetings, as we want to ensure every student has their voice heard. Our hope is that students in the FIRE Carrier team feel valued and appreciated for their contributions, and they learn important life skills.
We have regular meetings once a fortnight where we get together to plan and discuss upcoming events. In the meetings all students get a chance to voice their opinions.
Our hope is that all students will gain a better understanding of aboriginal culture and its importance both throughout history and in Modern Australia.
Students can help support the program by participating in events and activities run by the FIRE Carriers such as XCEL lessons, smoking ceremonies, and the wider school community can support us by attending fundraisers or other activities run by the team such as the annual Dreamtime Game, which we launched in Term One this year.
FIRE Carriers is a really great opportunity for students to work on leadership and teamwork skills, and applications to join our team are open year round. If students are interested they can email Ms Jessie Young, Student Mentor.
Being a FIRE Carrier has deepened my understanding of Indigenous culture and strengthened my commitment to reconciliation. It’s more than a leadership role; it’s a chance to honour truth, show respect, and create meaningful change within our school community. One of my proudest achievements was helping organise events that celebrate Indigenous voices and bring people together
