Dear Parents/Guardians & Students,

We keep in our thoughts and prayers Bernadette Kennedy who passed away last week. Bernadette was the first Principal at the current Mornington Campus site after moving from Tanti Avenue, Mornington. Bernadette was Principal from 1973 – 1975 and was last Principal to be appointed to the College by the Sisters of Mercy. Bernadette later went on to work in Western Australia with the Aboriginal community. We remember Bernadette for the significant contributions she made to Padua College. May she rest in peace.

Our condolences to the family of Lily Phillips (Class of Year 12, 2015), who tragically passed away in a car accident last week. Lily will be remembered as a vibrant and positive young lady who left an indelible impression on those that knew her. May she rest in peace.

Opening Mass & Assembly

Next Tuesday 27 February will be a very special day at the College as staff and students from all three campuses come together at the Mornington Campus to celebrate our Opening of the School Year Assembly. The Assembly will give us an opportunity to welcome all Year 7 students to the College as well as celebrate our high achieving students from our 2017 graduating class. This Assembly is also a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn of, and be inspired by, the achievements of our recent graduates.

On Tuesday evening we will celebrate our Opening of the School Year Mass at the Mornington Campus. All Year 7 students, all other new students as well as all school leaders are expected to attend this Mass and all other families are most welcome to attend. A Caremonkey has been sent to all families with details of the Mass.

Twilight Open Evenings

Staff at the College are preparing for our upcoming Twilight Open Evenings which will be held at each campus as follows:

Rosebud and Tyabb:            Wednesday 7 March 2018, 4.00pm – 7.00pm

Mornington:                          Wednesday 14 March 2018, 4.00pm – 7.00pm

This is a great opportunity, particularly for those that are considering future enrolments, to visit Padua College and experience a taste of the curriculum, sporting, cultural and spiritual life we offer our students.

We are looking forward to these inaugural evenings and I would ask that if parents know of any families that might be interested in enrolling their children at Padua College in the future, that they encourage them to attend.

Year 7 Camps

Year 7 students from the Rosebud Campus are on camp this week at Wilsons Promontory. I had the pleasure of joining some of the staff and students on Monday and it was great to see them all having such an enjoyable time, as they establish themselves and build new relationships.

Swimming Carnivals

The week before last we had the Rosebud Campus Swimming Carnival and earlier this week we have had the Mornington Junior and Senior Swimming Carnival.

The carnival for Tyabb Campus will be tomorrow. My thanks to the staff involved in organising and supervising these events that are so enjoyed by the students.

Year 7, 2020 Enrolments

As noted in our last edition of the Paduan, we have undertaken to implement changes informed by significant discussion with students, staff and parents so we can best meet the needs of all students who join our Padua community. Previous practice has seen us conduct enrolment interviews with families of potential students whilst they are in Grade 5, we have made the decision to move these interviews into Grade 6 once families have accepted an offer of enrolment at the College. We believe that conducting these interviews with students and their families in Grade 6 will allow us greater opportunity to gather relevant information about each student closer to the time they join our classrooms. Further information for families with students in Grade 5 and 6 in 2018 will be emailed and details can be found on the College website under Enrolments & Tours:

I wish to thank parents and students for their support of our focus on the correct wearing of the College uniform. Students have been wearing the uniform with pride and this reflects the way they feel about our College. I look forward to this great start continuing throughout the school year.

Senior Learning Centre

The construction of Stage One of the Mornington Campus Master Plan is well underway with the excavation works complete and the foundation works taking place. This state-of-the-art, three-storey building will continue to take shape over the coming months and is scheduled for completion by November of this year. We will continue to keep you informed of the progress.
