Padua Parent News

Welcome back to another school year, and an exciting year it will be at Padua! We have our 120th anniversary celebrations throughout the year, but with a particular emphasis on the month of May when the College formally opened its doors in 1898 in Tanti Ave Mornington. It is extraordinary to think of the students and families who have been part of our history since that time, and a more than a little humbling to have the privilege of continuing to be part of this wonderful enterprise.

I hope the holidays were as restful and rejuvenating as holidays can be, and that we are all looking forward to continuing our home-school partnership that is so essential to the learning of your children and our students.

We will have a full list of dates for all matters to do with parent partnership and engagement in the next Paduan, but can I ask you to put the following date into your calendars…

Parent Forum -  8 May 2018

As part of the celebrations for Padua’s 120th anniversary, the Parent Group asked to have a speaker to assist the parent body understand the idea behind “positive education”. The keynote speaker at the beginning of May when celebrations begin will be Professor Lea Waters.

Lea is President of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) and Professor and Founding Director of Positive Psychology Centre, the University of Melbourne. She contributes regularly to the media in Australia, USA, Canada, Asia and the UK on the topic of positive psychology, positive education and parenting. Lea has been a psychology researcher at the University of Melbourne for over 20 years and has published close to 100 scientific journal articles and book chapters. She was inducted as a Fellow of the International Positive Psychology Association and is the only Australian to be inducted (2015). She was listed in the Financial Review’s list of Top 100 Women of Influence (2015).

As you can see, this will be a fantastic evening and we encourage to set the date aside so that you can be part of the night.

New Programs for Padua Parents

In the next edition of the Paduan, we will also launch two new resources for Parents at Padua – a Parent edition of the Positive Education ‘Learning Curves’ material that will be central to your daughter’s and son’s pastoral studies this year, as well as SchoolsTV which is a rich resource on parenting and school available to all families.

First Parent Organising Meeting – Monday 19 February

Our first organisation meeting for this year will be on Monday 19 February 2018 at 7:30pm in the Mornington Staff Room

All are welcome to attend, and we promise that those attending for the first time have an ‘amnesty’ on getting jobs to do first up! Just come along and see what we do, and hopefully further into the year there will something of interest you will want to be involved in.

If you would like to email me with any thoughts, questions or suggestions as we head into 2018, please feel free to do so. I’d love to hear from you.
