Dear members of the Padua College community

We keep in our prayers the family of Hamish Keane (Year 7 Geoghegan) whose father, Christopher Keane, passed away last week. May he Rest in Peace. We also remember the Bergin family on the passing of Marie Bergin last week. Marie, Mick and family were all members of the Padua College community and we remember them at this sad time. We keep in our prayers Jenny McCulloch (T) whose father passed away recently. May they Rest in Peace.

Hugh Van Cuylenburg – Parent Forum

Last night the Padua Parents’ Group held the Parent Forum with special guest presenter, Hugh Van Cuylenburg, Founding Director of ‘The Resilience Project’. It was wonderful to see so many parents and staff in attendance and I wish to thank the members of the Padua Parents’ Group for organising such a valuable event.

Headspace Afternoon and Evening

Recently, Headspace staff facilitated an afternoon session for staff and an evening session for parents entitled ‘Dealing with Adolescent Grief’ which was designed to assist teachers, parents and carers by providing information and strategies targeted at young people who are having to cope with grief and/or trauma. My thanks to Ms Sally Buick for organising and hosting these sessions.

Staff Wellbeing Day

Last Friday saw all staff gather together at the Mornington Campus for a series of wellbeing activities. The day started with an address from Fr Chris Monaghan who examined the themes of the Padua College Mission and Values statement, this was followed by a number of professional development session. Members of the College Wellbeing Team presented a session on Pos Ed to all staff and in the staff afternoon all staff were invited to participate in a number of staff run wellbeing activities such as cooking, sea kayaking, cross-country running, quilting and woodwork, just to name a few! This was a great day that allowed staff to focus on student wellbeing, as well as our own wellbeing as staff members. My thanks to Ms Sally Buick, Ms Marjorie Canal and Mr Michael Harrison for preparing this day for us, as well as to all staff who ran the various workshops throughout the day.

SAFEminds Staff Training

We have also recently held SAFEminds training for approximately 40 of our staff (House Co-ordinators, Pastoral Co-ordinators, Wellbeing Staff, Heads of Campus) led by staff from Headspace on the area of Mental Health prevention and early detection. I thank Ms Sally Buick for also planning and co-ordinating this valuable professional day.
