Deputy Principal's Report

Congratulations to the following Year 11 students who have been elected by their peers to represent them on the Senior School Council:

Francis: Victoria Attwood and Mia Cummings
John XXIII: Isabella Shannon and Edward Brownlee
MacKillop: Monique Machin and Flinn Gordon
Mercy: Tamika Buckby and Marcus Schaper

To have such outstanding young men and women put themselves forward is a credit to them as individuals and to the Senior School Council of previous years who set such a wonderful example. As a Year 11 and 12 Campus, we all look forward to the programs and initiatives that will come from working with Ms Gina Goss over 2018.

The Year 11 VCAL students are working feverishly at the moment in preparations for their upcoming camp. With 57 students packing their bags for the four-day adventure to Wilsons Promontory, the students have been organising and running fitness sessions, menu planning, surveying maps and hiking paths for their adventure. This camp is a significant event with staff being able to assess multiple competences for their Year 11 Certificate, specifically the ability to work in teams.

The Year 12 Formal was a highlight for many students and allowed for the coming together of 296 Year 12 students to celebrate as one. Read more about the Formal in this edition of the Paduan from Ms Gina Goss. It is with great pride that I can thank Ms Goss, Mrs Debbie Clarke and the team of student helpers for their tireless work in preparing such a memorable night for all. Also many thanks to the staff who volunteered their time to help with supervision.

At our High Achievers’ Assembly, 2017 College Dux Tash Albers spoke to the students about the fact that setting goals and planning a pathway forward for studies is really important. For more, see the Learning and Teaching page in this edition of the Paduan.

The College is happy to offer a second Elevate session, available to all Year 11 and 12 students, to be held on Tuesday 20 March from 3.30 to 4.30. Students have been emailed a Google link form in which they can sign up for this free session. The sessions focus on personal goal setting for managing studies and pathway planning, and are delivered by current university students. Please encourage your student to sign up as soon as possible so that we can confirm numbers with the provider.

Our Semester One Units 1 & 3 are well and truly underway. Your students should be consulting their SAC calendars and preparing for assessment. Please encourage the development of a study routine and consult with subject teachers if you have concerns.

As always, I encourage all parents to continue to be active member of the Padua community, engaging in conversation about what topics are being studied in class, keeping abreast of upcoming events and making contact with subject teachers, as required.
