Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians & Students,

Condolences
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Mary Cameron (College Pastoral Associate) on the passing of her mother, Molly, last week and also with Cherie Gage (Mornington Campus Administration) on the passing of her mother in law last week.

Opening Mass & Assembly
What a wonderful day we had on Tuesday 27 February, commencing with our Full College Assembly and ending with our College Opening of the School Year Mass, both occasions marking the 120th Anniversary of the College. The Assembly provided an opportunity to welcome the Year 7 students from all three campuses to the College, as well as to celebrate the outstanding successes of our 2017 graduating cohort. My sincere thanks to Mr Jim Baird, Mr Curtis Stone, Mrs Pauline Lanigan, Ms Gina Goss, Mr Peter Harte, Mr Travis Pearce, Mrs Helen Sugameli, Mr Ange Virgona, Mr Mark Mannock, Mr Michael Harrison as well as all staff involved in assisting with the transportation and supervision of students. This is a big undertaking but one that is most worthwhile for our College community.
Tuesday evening we celebrated our Commencement Eucharist and once again I thank all staff for their work in preparing for this wonderful evening. My particular thanks to Mr Michael Harrison, and the members of the Faith Team, Ms Gina Reimers, Mrs Anne-Marie Wilkinson, Mr Peter Woodhouse, Mr Peter O’Halloran, Mrs Ciara Roberts, Mr Ange Virgona and Mrs Mary Cameron

As we are celebrating our 120th Anniversary this year, we were honoured to have some significant past members of the College community join us for Mass, namely:

Past Principals – Peter Gurry & Christopher Houlihan
Past Deputy Principals – Sam Cosentino, Paul Desmond, Anne King, Carmel Reznicsek
Past Business Managers – Charles Foran and Ben Wells
Past Board Chair – Noel Davies

It was wonderful to be able to welcome these members of the College community back to celebrate with us.

Twilight Open Day
Last night saw us hold our first Twilight Open Day at the Rosebud and Tyabb Campuses that gave members of the community the opportunity to visit our campuses and see some of the wonderful programs and facilities we offer at Padua College. We had over 300 people attend both campuses on the day.

My thanks to the College Marketing Team: Ms Marcelle Ryan, Ms Christine Mose, Mr Michael Harrison, Mrs Sarah Hansen, Mrs Kylie Baker, Ms Kathleen Williams and Mrs Sri Ramesh along with all staff who set up, assisted with preparation and on the night. A special mention to Ms Kelly McGurn (Vice Principal Learning and Teaching) and all of the Learning Teams for the wonderful subject displays that were at each campus. The student leaders at both campuses were outstanding and represented the College with pride and enthusiasm.

The Mornington Campus Twilight Open Day will be held next Wednesday 14 March from 4pm–7pm and I look forward to seeing many current and new families. Once again, I would ask that if parents know of any families that might be interested in enrolling their children at Padua College in the future, that they encourage them to attend.

VCE Season of Excellence - Top Arts

At the end of last year we were notified that a number of 2017 Padua College students had their work selected to be part of the VCE Season of Excellence Top Arts Exhibition 2018 at the NGV, 23 March – 16 July 2018. Jack Knox, Riana McKenzie and Sienna Espie, will all have work displayed in this exhibition. Further to this, Sienna Espie has had a piece of her work selected to be used for the invitation to the Exhibition Opening – congratulations Sienna!

Year 12 Formal
Last Friday night our Year 12 students had their Formal at the Mornington Racecourse. This was a wonderful night for our Year 12 students, who were able to take a break from their studies for a few hours to enjoy this night. A special thank you to Ms Gina Goss and Mrs Deb Clarke who were the function co-ordinators.
